What It Means to be Free

Americans think of themselves as being relatively free. The laws governing the United States allow for more personal freedom than in most countries. Yet Americans are no more free inside themselves than anyone else. Real freedom only comes from decisions made on the inside. If those decisions were made in the past, they may be restricting your life now.

The way you think, feel and act are often based on what you were taught long ago, even in childhood. Your parents, religion, schools and society shaped your early beliefs. All that you saw, heard, and felt were absorbed and translated into your view of the world and how life works. For example, if your parents struggled financially and there was never enough money for what the family needed or wanted, you are more likely to struggle financially today than if your parents experienced financial freedom. If you grew up in a family where there was plenty of money and the parents weren't worried about money and didn't talk about money as a lack in their lives, there is a much greater chance that money doesn't present a struggle in your life to this day. You know all this, don't you?

If the beliefs you were taught or absorbed help you feel good about yourself, optimistic and confident, then they are assets. If what you were taught as a child makes you feel bad about yourself, powerless, frustrated or stuck, it was a limited belief based on fear and constricts your life to this day.

Can freedom be found in shaping your life according to beliefs of others in past times? You are no longer a child and you do not have to continue to allow the limitations

Stop and think about how many of your present beliefs were shaped by fear or judgment. Anything based on fear or judgment is restrictive. To the extent you are basing your life on any kind of restriction, your life isn't working as well as it could. To have your life be all that you want it to be, it is important to notice where you feel frustrated or angry about some part of your life.

Money, health, relationships, and work are the most common areas wherein you may feel frustrated. For example, if you experience money as “never enough,” you probably feel sad, scared , ashamed, or angry about not having enough money. So you are not free in the area of money because what you believe about money is restricting your ability to have as much money as you need or want.

To experience true freedom in any part of your life you must know you are bigger than the problem. No undesirable situation is as great as your God-given Power. No matter what the challenge, how big it seems or how long you have experienced it, you can heal it and have the change you desire.

Whatever your life experience is, if this isn't working for you any longer, choose again. Work with your inner Power, which I call your own I AM, to decide what you want and declare that it is yours. It is your new reality. For awhile circumstances you don't want will continue to appear. Reclaim your Power and stand resolutely upon what you now envision for your life. Ask your own personal I AM to help you create what you desire. Be willing to trust your I AM to do this. You will be surprised at how resourceful your I AM is in bringing you what you want.

You are free to create the life you wish for by claiming and using the Power that lies within. That is true freedom and I encourage you to go for it.

Blessings of love,
Shala
